Explorers of the frequency following response, have tended to concentrate their research in their own particular interest areas. For example, with the proper frequencies you can induce relaxation or sleep, the body’s release of pain-relieving endorphins (neurotransmitters) or sharpen your concentration. It gives you a way to program brain chemistry and consciousness. Once you understand that different frequencies in the brain are associated with different states of chemistry and consciousness, the importance of brainwave entrainment becomes clear. Because headphones are required to achieve this effect, binaural beats are not suitable for use with animals. This trait is called “frequency following response” or brainwave entrainment and the frequencies are called binaural beats. Playing these frequencies repeatedly would cause the brain cells to fire in the same rhythm as the frequencies. In 1839 Heinrich Dove, a physicist, discovered that by playing slightly different frequencies in each ear, the brain would manufacture a third frequency midway between the first two. Binaural beats are the basis of much brainwave entrainment work. Recently, an enhanced form of binaural beats has been shown to provide powerful, drug-free pain relief. Binaural beats have helped many people expand their awareness and develop or hone skills and abilities.
